How Do I Can My Homegrown Vegetables?


Growing your own organic food is only part of the fun. After you've harvested your bounty from your backyard garden, you've got to figure out what to do with it, right?  How about "putting it up", so that you and your family can enjoy your homegrown food all year long, even through winter, most likely longer!

The process can be quite easy as long as you know what procedure to use for the type of food you are canning.  Regardless of what you're putting up though, there are a few basic steps.

STEP 1: The first is you prep by washing your jars, lids and rings and you also begin to heat your water. 

STEP 2: The second step is preparing your produce and selecting your recipe you'll be using. 

STEP 3: And lastly, you preserve your food by submerging your jars, filled with your recipe, in boiling water.
 
Canning your own food is very rewarding and something that truly pays off. It eliminates waste if you have a "bumper crop" of something and can't manage to eat it all fresh.  There are millions of tested and delicious recipes for everything you can imagine.  There are also plenty of groups online where you can share tips and recipes with other home canners. 




Not only is the food delicious, but showing off your jars of canned, homegrown vegetables will come natural because of how beautiful those jars will look.

Canned goods make wonderful gifts too. Your family will never tire of you sharing your latest creation made with your homegrown food.
